Skincare Strategy

Skin aging and wrinkles are caused by reduction of certain critical proteins in the skin such as collagen and elastin as we age and by damages from external effects such as harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun, air pollution, cigarette smoke, etc. Chronic and excessive exposure to such harmful sources is the main cause of the changes we see in our skin as we grow older.

Obviously, wrinkles pose a great threat to our skin beauty. Unfortunately, many of us learn about the danger of the sunlight after the damage has been done. This damage, while not immediately apparent, can accumulate over time and result in significant, unwanted signs of aging later in life.

We can not stop the birthdays, but we can fight the wrinkles and age spots that accompany them. Remember, it’s never too late to prevent future damage!

  • Always apply a sunscreen with an SPF rating of 15 or higher, wear a hat with a brim, and use some protective covering on your arms and legs. Try to minimize time spent in the sun during late morning and early afternoon, when the sun’s rays are the most intense.

  • Scientific studies have clearly demonstrated that the skin, like all the body’s organs, relies on vitamins and other nutrient elements to maintain the proper functions and repair the damages by the harmful effects such as UVA and UVB rays. There are so many anti-aging solutions out there in the market. It is skeptical that many products claim to augment natural collagen or elastin, since the molecules in these products are often too big to actually penetrate into the skin and the active ingredients in these products have never been well studied for their stabilities and effectiveness in skin. Therefore, it’s almost impossible to be able to choose the proper products for your skin if you don’t have essential knowledge of basic skin care. Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are among the few active ingredients that can truly reverse skin damage, reduce fine lines and soften wrinkles.

  • Regular and long-term application of antioxidant ingredients like coenzyme Q10, vitamin C, vitamin E and alpha lipoic acid could also help repair and improve our skin.

  • Follow a healthy diet and drink sufficient water. What food you eat also has an impact on how well your skin can heal itself. Whenever possible, choose foods that are fresh and unprocessed. Your body loses almost three quarts of water every day. Staying hydrated is essential for healthy skin.
